MetroHealth to introduce ER in Parma

MetroHealth is about to open two new emergency departments: one in Parma and the other in Cleveland Heights.

The new centers are freestanding, and will be housed in already existing HealthSpan space. However, they will be open 24/7 and anyone can seek care, regardless of whether or not they have insurance.

MetroHealth operates a Level 1 trauma center in Cleveland; such a center can provide comprehensive care for any type of injury. MetroHealth's center is the only one in the area, and the lack of such facilities may have prompted it to expand its reach by leasing space for emergency care in HealthSpan's medical centers.

While the new centers will not offer Level 1 care, those seeking medical help will be able to access treatment for severe illnesses, and the centers will be able to handle the victims of strokes and heart attacks.

MetroHealth has gone from 17 centers to 55 in the last three years, mostly by leasing space in existing locations. HealthSpan doctors will continue to provide care at the new centers. The emergency department in Cleveland Heights will open February 15, and the Parma location will start seeing patients February 29. The Parma facility is at 12301 Snow Road.

MetroHealth officials might consider working with a flyer printing company on a mailer to contact residents throughout the area, announcing the opening of the two new facilities.
