Life in Parma to be brought on stage

Parma residents who remember when the new Shoppes at Parma were the old Parmatown Mall will be able to walk down memory lane once more, thanks to a new play.

‘Parmatown’, which is described as a “comedic tour down memory lane—or more specifically, Ridgewood Drive”, will allow Parma citizens to revisit their favorite spot one last time. They will be able to remember the fun to be had at the old mall, where many people saw first run movies, went on dates, and just hung out.

Parmatown Mall was first built in 1956, and enclosed in the mid-60s. Its first anchor stores were May Company and Higbee's, which is now Dillard's.

‘Parmatown’ is a presentation of the Land of Cleve Productions troupe, which will present it for one night only. In the play, art imitates life and a group of people who are in line to purchase a souvenir brick from a demolished mall recall the fun they had at the location over the years.

The show will run July 26 only, at 7.30 pm, at the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Cleveland located at 5801 Memphis Avenue. Though there is free parking nearby, the church is not wheelchair accessible. Theater personnel could work with a poster printing company to create colorful display Posters to put throughout Parma, advertising the show.
