Parma residents who are interested in theories regarding the origins of the human race have several lectures to enjoy over the next few months.
The Cuyahoga County Public Library (CCPL) is presenting Origins Science Scholars, a series of lectures by researchers working in the fast-moving area of origins science.
The first lecture concerns human evolution, and asks whether or not humans are still evolving. Dr. Cynthia Beall suggests that evolution is still ongoing, and discusses the adaptations made today by some people living in extreme climates. Dr. Beall is a physical anthropologist at Case Western Reserve University.
The second lecture delves into evolution again, only this time the lecturer will consider the evolution of computers, specifically the laptop. The speaker is Dr. Danny Solow.
The final lecture will be given by Dr. Bruce Latimer, also of Case Western, who will consider the physical problems that evolution have posed for humans, from backaches and slipped disks to bunions, dental problems, and hernias.
The lecture series is free to the public and the talks are scheduled for the auditorium of the Parma Library at 2121 Snow Road. The first lecture is scheduled for February 19 from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm, the second for March 19 from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm, and the third for April 9 from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
Library staff might consider working with a flyer printing company to create handouts for each of the talks.
