Jason J. Reed named director of diversity and inclusion

Holy Name High School in Parma Heights recently announced that Jason J. Reed will serve as its first director of diversity and inclusion, a post he held for 13 years at another school.

Reed has already taken up his duties, starting work last month. He said the principal and president of Holy Name saw there was little ethnic diversity among administrators or faculty members, and so created the position and invited Reed to accept it. Reed also went on to explain that 20% of Holy Name’s students are ethnically diverse, and 35% come from Cleveland proper, which led to the decision to have someone on hand to help with inclusion work.

His position as director of inclusion and diversity calls upon Reed to collaborate with faculty members and staff, student groups, and parents’ organizations, to help them organize efforts that enhance inclusion. He will also encourage everyone to enhance social, cultural, and educational programs that stress the importance of an inclusive and diverse environment. Officials who are working to develop programs like this can use flyer printing to create suitable materials.

Reed believes that recognizing the importance of diversity will help graduates of Holy Name succeed. He points out that when students graduate, they will no longer be in the sheltered environment of a high school but will be working with people of widely differing backgrounds. Reed sees these differences as an opportunity for students to learn and succeed.
