Cultural celebration in Parma

A special event for children is on the schedule in Parma.

The Association of Asian Indian Women in Ohio (AAIWO) has organized a day to celebrate the heritage and culture of one of the world’s oldest civilizations. The group is inviting everyone to come to learn about India and its culture. The event is free and people of all ages are welcome, but the organizers note it was designed primarily for youngsters under 16 years of age.

The day will give attendees a chance to learn more about this rich culture by listening to Indian music, watching classical dances, and playing traditional Indian board games. A craft counter is planned where people will find supplies to make their own lanterns and lamps, and a storyteller will be under the banyan tree spinning tales from Indian mythology.

The dancing is not limited just to watching - people will be able to learn fusion and Bhangra dances. Bhangra refers to a number of folk dances and music that come from the Punjab region of India. Lively and colorful, the dances are believed to have originated in the 14th or 15th centuries as a harvest celebration.

The fun is scheduled for September 18 from 2:30 pm until 4:30 pm at the Parma-Snow Branch of Cuyahoga County Public Library on Snow Road. Poster printing can be used to create vibrant Posters advertising events like this.
