The Dayton suburb of Kettering will be the site of an upcoming race that is raising funds for a worthy cause.
Harrigan’s Charity 5K is part of the Young’s Ice Cream Charity Bike Tour, but this is a run, not a bike ride. The Bike Tour supports a variety of charities. In the past two decades, the Tour has raised over $1.7 million for its causes.
The 5K Run/Walk is a tradition around St. Patrick’s Day, as well as raising funds for local charities such as South Community Positive Health Options, United Rehab Services of Greater Dayton, JRDF, and the Alzheimer’s Association.
Speedy Feet will provide chip timing for the event, and after the run, K&G will have its annual sale and other activities available to participants. Snacks, water, and bananas will be provided by Gordon Food Service.
On race day, registration begins at 7.30 am, and the race starts at 9.30 am. Runners can register online as late as the start of the race. The fee is $35 through the end of the day on Wednesday, March 6, after which it goes up to $40. Organizers of outdoor runs like this will often use banner printing to create signage marking the course.
Harrigan’s Charity 5k is scheduled for Saturday, March 9 at Harrigan’s Tavern, located at 4070 Marshall Road in Kettering. Runners can pick up their packets March 7 and 8, from 4.00 pm until 6.00 pm, at Up and Running. Packets will also be available on race day at Harrigan’s.
