Historic trees spotlighted in Fremont

Next month, Spiegel Grove will host a specialized guided walk highlighting specimen plantings commemorating notable visitors and family friends.

The one-hour excursion will focus on trees that President Rutherford B. Hayes and his children dedicated to individuals they respected. The event will also offer insights into both botanical features and the personal stories behind each dedication.

Participants will depart from the Hayes Presidential Library and Museums and traverse the estate’s arboretum, examining each honored tree’s species characteristics and historical significance. Docents will share archival anecdotes, connecting the landscape’s living memorials to the personalities celebrated by the Hayes family.

Admission for non-members is $10 per adult and $7 for youth aged six to eighteen, while children under six and members of the Hayes Presidential Library and Museums can attend at no cost. Tickets must be obtained in advance and may be purchased online or at the museum's front desk on the day of the event.

This program is supported by Charles and Dr. Mary Wonderly, whose sponsorship helps maintain the educational tree tour series provided throughout the summer and spring seasons.

Print shops may be used to provide attendees with information about the trees at events such as this one.

The tour takes place Saturday, June 7, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at Spiegel Grove, the Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Library and Museums Estate.
