The Fremont Community Theatre, in collaboration with director Michael PJ Foos, will present a play titled Silent Sky this January through February.
The story is set at Harvard Observatory at the start of the 1900s. Silent Sky examines Henrietta Leavitt's journey as she charts stars alongside a set of female “computers” while being excluded from using telescopes or sharing her ideas.
Her work on measuring the distance and brightness of celestial bodies becomes a metaphor for navigating her earthly challenges. These include balancing family responsibilities, scientific ambition, and personal relationships. The play explores themes of societal constraints and the unsung contributions of women in an era of transformative scientific discovery.
The production will run for two consecutive weekends, offering evening performances at 7:30 pm on January 24, 25, 31, and February 1. Matinees will take place at 2 pm on January 26 and February 2.
Tickets are available online, with prices set at $18 for adults, $15 for seniors and military personnel, and $8 for students aged 18 and under. Patrons who encounter difficulties with the online registration system can call the box office at 419-332-0695.
