Working man coming to Cincinnati

A musician who was a member of a Grammy winning Australian group is coming to Cincinnati.

Colin Hay was born in Scotland and emigrated with his family to Australia, where they settled in Melbourne. He was exposed to music at an early age, as his father was a dancer and singer when they lived in Scotland. In Australia, Hay’s parents ran a music store.

Hay met Ron Strykert in 1978, and they became an acoustic duo. A year later, they added Greg Ham and Jerry Speiser to their group, then John Rees came aboard, and that was the start of the group known as Men at Work. The group was wildly successful, selling more than 30 million albums throughout the world. In 1983, they won the Grammy as “Best New Artist.”

The band broke up in 19863 and Hay went solo. Since then, he has appeared in films such as “Cosi,” in 1996, and on television in shows like “JAG” and “Scrubs.” On the latter, Hay performed an acoustic version of “Overkill,” a hit for Men at Work. He has also played with Ringo Starr & His All Starr Band. A review says:

Because Colin Hay always still finds his audience . . . that audience can count on their famous friend to sing some remarkable tunes . . .

When organizers plan events like this, they often use poster printing to create suitable advertising. Colin Hay will be at the Taft Theatre on March 28.
