The Memorial Hall Society is now inaugurating the Longworth-Anderson Series, according to an article on the Fox News 19 website.
The series features contemporary artists from such musical genres as world music, jazz, indie rock, and blues, with Rosanne Cash getting the schedule underway in the New Year.
Samuel Hanaford built Cincinnati’s Memorial Hall in 1908 as a tribute to the city’s veterans, and the historic structure just underwent an $11m renovation.
The Society’s chairman, Bill Baumann, says the series will offer a combination of Grammy winners and bands playing “in a perfect-jewel of a theater.” He adds that the series will demonstrate the value of Memorial Hall and its “beautiful, intimate theater” to the cultural district near Washington Park.
The events will comprise a full evening’s entertainment, not just the concert. Attendees will enjoy receptions before and after the concerts, honoring members of the group known as Friends of Memorial Hall. Receptions will be co-chaired by community members and will offer desserts, small plates, and wine and beer tastings.
Rosanne Cash appears with John Leventhal on February 10, Pink Martini appears March 9, guitarist and songwriter Richard Thompson will appear April 7, and Sarah Jarosz, a singer-songwriter who has been nominated for a Grammy, will entertain June 9. There will be two more concerts in the series.
Events like these can be enhanced when organizers work with poster printing companies to create colorful placards about the performers.
