Earth, Wind & Fire (EWF) has been performing for more than 50 years, creating a sound that blends jazz, blues, gospel, and afrobeat into something that music critics have been unable to classify, but that fans love. Their unique style has resulted in sales of more than 100 million records worldwide.
EWF got their start in Chicago in 1969, when Maurice White and his friends Wade Flemons and Don Whitehead formed a group to write commercial songs. Their work led to a contract with Capitol Records, and they released “La La Time,” on that label, but the single had only moderate success. White left the group and moved to Los Angeles.
In LA, he changed the name of the group to Earth, Wind & Fire, and brought more members aboard. The band dropped their debut album, “Earth, Wind & Fire” in 1971, and its second in November of that year. They finally hit the No. 1 spot with their fifth album, “Open Our Eyes.” To date, they have recorded 21 studio albums, releasing their most recent, “Holiday,” in 2014. Overall, their albums have been certified Silver, Gold, and Platinum in various countries. A review says:
“EWF...the best show I ever had!!... Very professional musicians & great sound.”
Earth, Wind & Fire will be at the Riverbend Music Center on July 18. Organizers of shows like this often use poster printing to create advertising for them.
