The Ludlow Garage is hosting two jazz greats, Alex Bugnon and Nelson Rangell. Bugnon is from Montreaux, Switzerland, which is the home of the renowned Jazz Festival, and is the nephew of Donald Byrd, another legendary jazz musician. Byrd mentored Herbie Hancock, with whom Bugnon had an early friendship. With his relatives, friends, and hometown in the mix, it was little surprise that he took up music as a career.
A review says:
“This was the best show I have ever been to. Alex is absolutely phenomenal!”
Nelson Rangell plays the alto sax, and has won praise from various publications including Saxophone Journal, which said:
“He commands the alto saxophone with such authority there can be no denying that Nelson Rangell is a true artist.”
while The Times of London mentioned his:
“. . .extraordinary facility on a range of instruments.”
Rangell was born in Colorado and although his parents were not musical, his siblings are. Paula, his sister, is a vocalist, his brother Bobby plays woodwinds, and Andrew, his brother, is a concert pianist. He has recorded 17 albums and worked on the album “The Hang,” which was nominated for a Grammy.
Alex Bugnon and Nelson Rangell will be at The Ludlow Garage on Saturday, February 17 at 7:30 pm. The doors will open at 6:00 pm. When events like this are planned, organizers will often promote them by using poster printing to create advertising.
