Country superstar to come to the Queen City

One of the most distinctive voices in country music will appear soon in Cincinnati.

Dwight Yoakam is a Kentucky native who relocated to Ohio, where he was a student at Northland High School in Columbus. He enjoyed both theater and music, and often played the lead in school plays and sang in several garage bands when he was not in school. He enrolled at Ohio State University, but left to relocate to Nashville.

Yoakam found that the music scene in Nashville was not to his liking, dominated as it was by a more easy-listening genre of country music that eliminated all the rough edges he felt were so vital to the music. Unable to get started in Tennessee, he moved again, this time to Los Angeles.

Inspired by his idols Johnny Horton, Merle Haggard, and Elvis Presley, he began to develop a roots-driven sound that appealed to patrons of venues that usually hosted punk outfits. He became one of the earliest country artists to break down the walls between country and rock, touring with such musicians as X and Hüsker Dü.

A review says:

“Dwight Yoakam is one of country music's most important stars. His voice is perhaps the most distinctive the genre has, and live in concert it is nothing short of amazing.”

Dwight Yoakam will be at the Hard Rock Cincinnati Ballroom on September 23. Colorful Posters are great tools for advertising events like this, and can be created by organizers who use poster printing.
