Cincinnati to play itself in upcoming film

Cincinnati has been a favorite location for filmmakers for a long time, and the Queen City will once again appear on the silver screen, this time when the public library serves as the setting for the film ‘The Public’.

Emilio Estevez wrote, directed, and stars in ‘The Public’, along with Jacob Vargas, Che ‘Rhymefest’ Smith, Michael K. Williams, Jeffrey Wright, Christian Slater, Gabrielle Union, Alec Baldwin, Taylor Schilling, and Jena Malone. Brochure printing gives officials in situations like this a tool to use to attract similar projects.

The plot is centered on a group of the city's homeless, who have nowhere to go when an icy winter storm hits. They decide they have to get out of the cold, and end up in the library. Publicity for the film says library patrons disagree with its officials over the best way to manage the terrible weather, and decide to make the library a shelter by holding an “Occupy”-type sit-in. The occupation sparks a police response with the media descending on the scene as well.

The story is a David versus Goliath tale that puts the spotlight on some of today's most important problems, including mental illness and homelessness, and uses a symbol of freedom—the public library—as its backdrop.

There are also a number of shots of the Cincinnati skyline to keep viewers pointing out landmarks. The movie's release date is April 5.
