They Might Be Giants was created by John Linnell and John Flansburg in 1982, who often performed as a duo backed up by a drum machine. They expanded in the 1990s to include a backing band, which currently consists of Danny Weinkauf, Dan Miller, and Marty Bellner.
The band has become known for its unique, alternative music, which includes the use of unconventional instruments, experimental styles, and funny lyrics. In addition to becoming successful on college radio and rock stations, they are also enjoying success with music for children, as well as writing theme music for various projects.
They have dropped a total of 23 studio albums, and one, “Flood,” has been certified Platinum, and three of their children’s albums have gone Gold. They have been nominated for four Grammys, and won two, one for the theme for “Malcom in the Middle,” and the other for “Best Children’s Album” for “Here Come the 123s.” They were also nominated for a Tony for “Best Original Score” for the Broadway version of “SpongeBob SquarePants.” A review says:
“. . . Saturday’s concert was indeed a gigantic success. As they sing in “Particle Man,” “When they meet it’s a happy land.”
They Might Be Giants will be at the Madison Theater in Covington, Kentucky, just across the river from Cincinnati, on May 14. Organizers of events like this can use poster printing to create advertising to attract concertgoers.
