A legendary rocker is coming to Cincinnati to celebrate a career milestone—the 30th anniversary of an innovative album.
Geoff Tate is marking the 30th anniversary of “Operation: Mindcrime,” a rock concept album that became one of the best-selling such albums in history. “Mindcrime” has been called one of the “100 Greatest Heavy Metal Albums of All Time” by Kerrang! Magazine, and achieved certified Platinum status.
At the time of the release, Tate was a member of Queensrÿche, a heavy-metal band that did not follow the pattern of most of their contemporaries. Where other groups emulated the style of predecessors like Aerosmith and Van Halen, Queensrÿche developed their own sound, drawn from acts like Queen and Pink Floyd that embraced art rock. The Seattle-based band released several albums before dropping “Operation: Mindcrime,” which led to their breakthrough. They followed up with their biggest success, “Empire,” which introduced “Silent Lucidity.”
The album itself takes the form of a quest, as Nikki explores society’s corruption and gets involved with a group of revolutionaries that include Sister Mary, Dr. X, and Father William. Tate and his group plan to perform the entire album. They also plan a set of their greatest hits which will include “Empire,” “Jet City Woman,” and—of course—“Silent Lucidity.”
Geoff Tate will be at the Ludlow Garage on January 22, where organizers can use poster printing to create exciting advertising for events like this.
