Pops goes Cincinnati

A performance that promises to be fun and exciting is planned for Cincinnati.

The Cincinnati Pops are presenting “Cirque de la Symphonie,” a performance that combines the artistry of cirque performers with the beauty of classical music. There are three performances only, and they are suitable for all members of the family.

“Cirque” is the French word for circus, but most people associate it with the world-famous Cirque du Soleil, which started in 1982, as a street festival known as “Le Fete Foraine.” The event was held in the village of Baie-Saint-Paul, which is near Quebec City on the St. Laurent River. The week-long festival was a huge success, and led to two more festivals in the next two years, and a legend was born.

Cirque de la Symphonie is a production that blends elements of the cirque with those found in the music hall. Performances usually found only under the circus tent have been adapted to the new venue, with dancers, contortionists, acrobats, Flyers, jugglers, strongmen, and balancers taking part. Perhaps most intriguing is that the artists collaborate with the maestro of each individual orchestra, so the performances are unique to each city. Poster printing is often used to create colorful advertising for events like this.

“Cirque de la Symphonie” is set for September 25 at 8:00 pm, September 26 at 8:00 pm, and September 27 at 2:00 pm, all at the Music Hall on Elm Street.
