New trail open in Cincinnati

Cincinnati officials, including the mayor and the city manager, along with residents and stakeholders, recently celebrated the opening of a new walking trail located in the South Cumminsville neighborhood.

The trail, which is a seventh of a mile long, was part of Cincinnati's 26th Neighborhood Enhancement Program (NEP), and was a neighborhood request. Donors that helped bring the walking trail to fruition included Huntington Bank, Delhi Towing, First Financial Bank, PNC Bank, BB&T Bank, East End Development, and the John R. Jurgenson Company. Mayor John Cranley noted that these projects make Cincinnati's neighborhoods more pleasant places to live, and thus are important to area residents. City Manager Patrick Duhaney added that neighborhood improvement efforts work best when city departments, community groups, and residents work together.

The Camp Washington neighborhood was also part of the effort, and asked for improvements to Valley Park, which is located on Monmouth Street. Solar lights and picnic tables were installed at the park.

An NEP is a collaborative endeavor in which businesses, community organizations, residents, and departments of the city work together in a specific area to mitigate blight and reduce the crime rate. In Camp Washington, the Camp Washington Community Board worked with the city's Public Services Department, and Keep Cincinnati Beautiful, to host a neighborhood cleanup as part of the NEP. In total, 110 people from the University of Cincinnati volunteered, and the workers collected over 150 bags of litter.
