What's Happening in Cincinnati, OH…

New bridge to Music Hall considered

After a $135m renovation, Cincinnati's historic Music Hall is just a few months away from its reopening. However, one important component of the effort, the pedestrian bridge between the hall and the parking garage, is in poor condition and its future is uncertain.

The bridge was recently judged to be near collapse, prompting a committee of the Cincinnati City Council to vote to replace it. They also agreed to help fund a replacement after the current structure is demolished.

Otto M. Budig, Jr., the president of the Music Hall Revitalization Company, along with other supporters, begged the city for some assurance about the bridge's future. He notes that now, after the latest committee meeting, some progress was made. Even so, it is almost certain any new structure will not be finished by the time the hall reopens on October 6.

Budig said a new bridge could connect to the Music Hall on the second level, eliminating the need for concert-goers to cross six traffic lanes and a parking lot to get to the building’s main entrance. He noted that for reasonably able people, such a bridge would be nice, but for those who are physically disabled or otherwise disadvantaged, such an easy route to the entrance would vitally important.

When community projects are undertaken, officials might want to work with a newsletter printing company to create a mailer that keeps residents updated on progress.
