Larry Carlton has released over 35 albums and been featured on more than 100 that have achieved either Gold or Platinum status in his 30-year career in music. In addition, Guitar Player magazine presented him with a Lifetime Achievement Award at a ceremony at Ryman Auditorium, a historic venue in Nashville which, from 1943 to 1974, housed the Grand Ole ‘Opry. Premier Guitar Magazine presented Carlton with the “Titan of Tone” award during a ceremony at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and in 1999, he earned a Rock Walk of Fame star.
Carlton, a native of California, began playing guitar when he was six, and became interested in jazz when he heard Joe Pass, and went on to admire other artists such as B.B. King. He worked as a studio musician on both acoustic and electric guitar in the 1970s, and played in many different genres including country, soul, rhythm and blues, rock, jazz pop, and jazz. Among the many artists with whom he appeared are Andy Williams, Michael Jackson, Sammy Davis, Jr., and Steely Dan.
