Coat drive underway in Cincinnati

Winter in Cincinnati is cold, and not everyone has a coat to help them stay comfortable, but Cincinnati residents can help the less fortunate by joining in the 5 Cares Coat Drive.

WLWT News 5, St. Vincent de Paul, Kemba Credit Union, Gold Star Chili, and firehouses throughout the area have joined forces, and are collecting coats for needy families. Organizers of the drive will accept both new and “gently used” coats, which they will distribute at various locations. They suggest that people take this opportunity to clean out their closets this winter and donate some of the coats they no longer need.

Last year, the coat drive was extremely successful, collecting more than 7,000 garments, which was more than the organization’s goal. This time, it has set a goal of 8,000 coats. Thus far, more than 2,500 coats have been donated.

St. Vincent De Paul spokeswoman Kristen Klein said the team is looking particularly for men’s coats, as well as larger women’s sizes, and children’s coats as well, since children grow so rapidly.

The drive is running through December 9, and coats may be dropped off at any one of dozens of locations throughout the region.

Drive organizers need to get the word out, so they might work with a poster printing company on Posters to be displayed at the drop-off locations.
