Cincinnati Zoo kicks off Zoo Babies

For the 31st year, the Cincinnati Zoo is showing off its ‘Zoo Babies’ throughout May.

Visitors to the zoo will be able to see some of the organization's newest additions all month long.

Perhaps the babies everyone will be most concerned about are three cheetah cubs who were born prematurely in March, and who require round-the-clock care in the zoo's nursery. After a rocky start, the little cats are getting stronger and gaining weight, according to the zoo, and visitors will be able to see them in their nursery during the month.

They also have a new friend, as a fourth cheetah cub has joined them. The newcomer was born at Wildlife Safari in Oregon, but his mother could not care for him. Safari officials and experts from the Cincinnati Zoo agreed it would be beneficial for everyone if the Oregon baby joined the Ohio group, and so he did, despite being larger than the others.

In addition to the cheetahs, visitors can see baby alligators, a bonobo, baby gorillas, and a baby potto, which is a furry primate that resembles nothing else in the zoo. Signs shaped like storks guide visitors to the various baby animals.

The Zoo is free to mothers on Mother's Day, May 8, and could add to the fun by creating colorful Banners to mark the babies' locations, in addition to the stork Signs.
