Cincinnati to make a Pig of itself
A whole weekend of activities dedicated to racing is coming up in Cincinnati.
After watching the racing scene in the city grow steadily for years, the Cincinnati Marathon, Inc.’s Board of Directors decided to bring many races together under one umbrella known as “Pig Works.” The Flying Pig marathon that started it all is now over 20 years of age, and has created an entire family of events.
The race weekend is crammed. The Friday brings a Fitness Expo as well as the 50 Mile West, a one-mile walk. There are six races on Saturday: a Toyota-sponsored 10K that starts at 7.00 am; a 5K courtesy of Champion Windows at 9.00 am; the Flying Piglet, a 0.6-mile race for children that starts at 10.00 am; The 26th Mile, a one-mile race for youth starting at 11.00 am; the PigAbilities race, a one-mile race for those with disabilities, starting at noon; and Flying Fur, a two-mile event for furry friends, at 1.00 pm.
Sunday brings a four-person relay, and the weekend’s two main races – the Flying Pig Marathon, and the Half-Marathon. The full, 26.2-mile marathon, the half-marathon (13.1 miles), and the relay all start at 6.30 am, while the wheelchair start is at 6.25 am.
It all takes place on May 5, 6, and 7 at various locations in Cincinnati and Covington, Kentucky. Organizers of outdoor events like this can use banner printing to create weather-resistant markers to delineate the courses.
