Cincinnati to host classic Southern rock band

A band that has been rocking since the 1970s will be playing Cincinnati soon.

The Atlanta Rhythm Section first got together in 1971. The group comprised musicians who came from other groups to form the session band at Studio One, a new recording studio located near Atlanta, in Doraville.

After playing on recordings for other artists, James (J.R.) Cobb, Robert Nix, Dean Daughtry, Paul Goddard, Barry Bailey, and Rodney Justo went out on their own in 1971 as the Atlanta Rhythm Section.

Decca Records signed the ARS, and they dropped their self-titled debut in 1972. That effort, and other early albums, sold moderately, but they began to find their audience in the mid-1970s, when they performed an outdoor concert with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. In 1975, they opened for two of the biggest names in music: The Who, and the Rolling Stones.

Their 1976 release, “A Rock and Roll Alternative,” went to the #13 spot on the Billboard chart. In the spring of 1977, the album was certified gold. The group continues to tour, despite changes in the lineup.

A review notes:

“The Atlanta Rythm [sic] Section put on a VERY entertaining show. Incredible 2 lead guitars, ALL NITE!! The set list was spot on with all their hits. . . . GO SEE THEM!!”

The Atlanta Rhythm Section will be at the Ludlow Garage at 8:30 pm on December 4, where poster printing could be used to announce concerts like this.
