Canadian supergroup coming to Cincinnati

Great humor and great music have combined to make a Canadian group one of the biggest names in music.

Barenaked Ladies has sold approximately 15 million records and been nominated for multiple Grammy Awards. The band was started by Steven Page and Ed Robertson in Ontario, Canada, in 1988. They were later joined by Jim Creeggan and Andy Creeggan, though Andy left the group to study as an exchange student in South America, and was replaced by Tyler Stewart.

The group began to gain recognition in 1991 with their independent release of “The Yellow Tape,” which was initially rejected by every record label in Canada. However, the band sold the Tape at their performances, and increasing demand made it necessary for record shops to stock it. Eventually, it became so popular it went Platinum in Canada.

In 1992, they released “Gordon,” which was a massive success in Canada, but it was not until 1998, and the release of “Stunt,” that they finally broke through in the United States. “One Week,” a single, was a success and climbed to No. 1 on the singles chart, finally solidifying their reputation as a major group. A review says:

“Terrific night. . . . Perfect mix of older tracks and newer ones. The on-stage banter and theatrics of the band was worth the price of the tickets.”

Barenaked Ladies will be at The Banks on September 22. Promoters of events like this can use poster printing to create advertising for them.
