Canadian Pat Travers is from Toronto, and began play guitar when he was 14, sparked by seeing Jimi Hendrix play live in Ottawa. Travers soon began playing in various bands when he was a teenager. He left Canada for London when he was 20 and recorded a demo, which led to a contract with Polydor.
In April 1976, he dropped his self-titled debut album, and began touring England in support of the release. He developed a rapport with his fans by inviting members of the audience onto the stage to play “air guitar” with him. This was one of the reasons he was invited to appear at the mammoth Reading Festival that year.
As punk rock began to take over in the UK, Travers returned to the US to continue playing the bluesy rock he loved. Today, with the support of his outfit, he continues to write, play guitar, and take on keyboards. A review says:
“Pat Travers is, simply put, one of the most underrated guitar gods on planet Earth. Sure, he’s had a fair amount of success . . . but, the truth is this guy should be a household name!”
The Pat Travers Band will appear at the Ludlow Garage on July 24 at 8:30 pm. The doors open 90 minutes earlier, and flyer printing can be used to spread the word about events like this.
