Alt-rocker comes to Cincinnati

An innovative musician known for his alt-rock work is coming to the Ludlow Garage.

Glen Phillips is best known for his creation of and membership in the alt-rock band Toad the Wet Sprocket. The outfit formed in 1986 in Santa Barbara, California, and had their greatest success in the 1990s with singles like “Good Intentions,” “Fall Down,” and “Walk on the Ocean.”

They officially disbanded in 1998 to work on solo projects, but occasionally reunite for tours. They reunited in 2010, and released “Starting Now,” their latest album, in 2021. Critics have dubbed their sound folk-pop, jangle pop, pop rock, folk rock, and a garage band sound, but they are most consistently called an alternative rock outfit.

Although still occasionally with Toad, Phillips has released 10 albums on his own, with the latest, “There Is So Much Here,” dropping in 2022. He has worked with other artists, and covered “I’ll Follow the Sun,” a Beatles’ song, for soundtrack of the movie “Imagine That.” A review says:

“Excellent show! Glen’s voice sounded better than the height of the Toad era. Good mix of old, new, solo and Toad songs. Further proof that he is one of the most introspective and talented singer-songwriters of this era.”

Glen Phillips will be in Cincinnati on January 27. When events such as these are put on the schedule, organizers can use poster printing to create colorful advertising for the occasion.
