FC Cincinnati reveals stadium plans

FC Cincinnati, the Queen City's professional soccer team, recently made plans for its new stadium public, according to an article on City Beat.

The stadium would initially have 21,000 seats, entrances on Central Parkway, and has left room to add another 7,000 seats.

There are few if any surprises in the proposal, which has been discussed extensively. The stadium would stand on the site currently occupied by Stargel Stadium, as well as property on the opposite side of Central Avenue. Stargel Stadium belongs to the Cincinnati Public Schools (CPS), which agreed to a land swap with the team provided that the soccer franchise would then build a replacement for Stargel. FC Cincinnati agreed.

The new stadium would have 3,970 luxury seats, another 16,610 seats for general admission ticket holders, and approximately 500 seats reserved for members of the media. Shaded areas on the drawings indicate areas where the additional 7,000 seats could be added if needed; they are at the corners, and on the eastern edge. Two other areas were labeled “needed for future expansion.”

However, construction of the stadium is contingent upon FC Cincinnati winning an expansion franchise from Major League Soccer. Detroit and Sacramento are also contenders for the expansion, and no decision has been announced.
