Rebranding in cards for Akron RubberDucks

During two games in June the RubberDucks will be the Akron Chip Dippers as they continue in the team’s "Only in Akron" series, whereas they publicize food prevalent to the region by adopting a temporary name change.

In the past the RubberDucks have been known, among other monikers, as the Galley Boys and Cheese Salads. This year for the games on June 19 and 20, the “Akron Chip Dippers” will be honoring Lawson’s French Onion Chip Dip.

A “Chip Dippers” ticket package made up of a single game ticket and an Akron Chip Dippers hat will be available for $45.

Organizations can turn to local Print shops to create custom merchandise.

Jim Pfander the president and general manager of the RubberDucks explained in a press release saying:

“We are excited to pay homage to Akron’s favorite chip companion. Chip dip has been a major part of Akron get togethers for decades.”

Lawson’s began as a Cuyahoga Falls milk company. Their convenience stores were ever present across Ohio during the 1960s through mid-1980s before eventually being bought out by Dairy Mart, which was then purchased in 2003 by Circle K. The chip dip still bears the Lawson name.

The RubberDucks start the season at 6:35 on April 2 at 717 Credit Union Park against the Reading Fightin Phils. During their brief stint as the Chip Dippers in June, the team will be playing the Altoona Curve.
