New name and $50 million gift for Akron Childrens Hospital

A recent new release from Akron Children’s Hospital revealed that it has been presented with a $50 million no-strings-attached gift from philanthropist Tom Golisano.

In honor of Golisano’s generosity, the largest donation in the hospital’s history, it has been decided that the Akron Campus will be renamed the Akron Children’s Golisano Campus. Additionally, Akron’s Children’s will become part of the Golisano Children’s Alliance. The alliance is a nationwide network comprised of 15 children’s hospitals focusing on improving advancing innovation of pediatric healthcare, improving deliver and ensuring that children have access to compassionate, high-quality care.

Golisano founded Paychex, Inc., a human-resource enterprise geared to small and medium-sized companies. According to the news release Golisano has donated over $1 billion to educational institutions and hospitals in addition to establishing in 1985 the Golisano Foundation to assist those with intellectual and developmental disabilities interact better with the rest of the world.

The funds provided to Akron Children’s Hospital will be used to provide underserved communities with clinical services, make behavioral health services more easily accessible, expand cancer and congenital heart care, and establish new programs to increase patient engagement and promote nursing excellence. Some of the funds will also go toward research to improve the delivery of care and children’s health throughout the region.
