Forty thousand dollars in microgrants has been made available through the Mayor’s Youth Climate Action Fund to facilitate the design and implementation of climate-action grants.
Funding for the microgrants will come from the global Youth Climate Action Fund of Bloomberg Philanthropies and will be available to teams of Akron residents 15 to 24 years of age. Teams comprised of two or more qualified people must apply for the grants ranging from $1,000 to $5,000. The teams must be associated with an eligible fiscal sponsoring organization, which would be given the money on their behalf and assist them in implementing the project.
In many instances professional Print shops play a vital role in the pursuit and eventual winning of grant money.
Grant applicants much live or work in the city and their project must deal with an issue in one of four areas: transportation and mobility; efficient, healthy homes and buildings; climate-resilient communities; or waste reduction and reuse. Those teams that are chosen to receive grants will also garner funding and mentorship from fiscal sponsoring organizations, local community leaders, and city staff.
In April 2027, teams will be able to showcase their completed projects in the presence of city leaders including Akron Mayor Shammas Malik.
Bloomberg Philanthropies’ Youth Climate Action Fund has since its inception worked with over 300,000 youth throughout the world.
The grant application period starts August 3 and runs through September 14.
