What's Happening in Akron, OH…

Pulling the strings in Akron

Fairy tales usually have happy endings, but those endings often depend on the help of outsiders who assist the heroes. A charming prince kisses Snow White, the Huntsman rescues Red Riding Hood, and the Fairy Godmother gets Cinderella to the ball. People may have wondered what would happen to Cinderella, though, if her Fairy Godmother wasn’t available. That’s the question MadCap Puppets will pose when it presents The Cinderella Files at the Civic Theatre this month.

In MadCap’s version of the classic story, Ralph – Cinderella’s Fairy Godfather – is left behind while his wife takes a well-earned vacation, so he’s the one who has to deal with getting Cinderella ready to meet her prince. Giant puppets, the ‘big wand’, and a lot of audience participation will be required if Ralph is going to succeed in his mission. In this production, MadCap uses the fable as it’s known to most people, and also looks at two other versions – Diamonds and Toads, from Scandinavia, and The Crocodile’s Baby, from Indonesia.

Theaters often work with poster printing services to create attractive posters for display in local stores. They also use flyer printing experts to create hand outs for use in local schools.
