Prom dresses sought by Akron group

In preparation for its annual Princess Night Project, Altrusa International of Akron is soliciting donations of new and used prom dresses, along with dress shoes and accessories.

Through its Princess Night Project, the group has provided over 1,900 dresses so far and expects to have in excess of 1,000 prom dress from which attendees of this year’s event can choose. Also on hand will be shoes and a variety of accessories to accompany the dresses.

As an alternative to word of mouth, a flyer printing service can exponentially increase donations for an event.

No qualifications are required nor do attendees need to provide an obtained recommendation. The organization only requests the name of their school and how they came to know about the Princess Night Project. Upon registration, attendees will be eligible to choose a gown with the assistance of volunteers who serve as their personal shoppers. Seamstresses will be on hand at the event to affect any needed minor alterations.

Donations can be made on Friday, March 11 at the event location, the Kohl Family YMCA, from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm or by calling 330-606-5164 to arrange donations.

The Prom dress giveaway will take place 9:00 am to 3:00 pm on Saturday, March 12. The address is 447 E. Market Street, Akron. Attendees are advised that masks will be required at the event.
