What's Happening in Akron, OH…

Massive Akron highway project's Kenmore leg finally underway

Due to weather issues, the $161 million Akron highway project was delayed as the striping work necessary to reroute traffic through the construction zone could not be completed until recently.

According to Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) spokesperson Ray Marsch, wet pavement made the re-striping of Interstate 76/77 at the Kenmore Leg of I-76’s north end impossible. That section of Interstate is to be cut back to two lanes each direction during which time the remaining two lanes are to be rebuilt from East Avenue to Princeton Street.

Sometimes restaurants and other retailers need to utilize flyer printing services to offer specials to entice their clientele into making the extra effort it takes to work their way through road closure or slowdowns due to road construction.

This first phase is expected to be finished in August after which time rebuilding of the other two lanes will commence and work will begin on the I-76/77 Central Interchange and state Route 8.

Additional work will take place from late 2021 and 2024 including the I-77 reconstruction between the Central Interchange and Waterloo Road between Princeton and East Avenues on I-76. The completion date for the entire project is anticipated to be in July 2025.

The most expansive project undertaken by ODOT District 4 in its history will among other things include left-hand ramp reconstructions for I-76 east and I-76 west to state Route 8 north and I-77 south respectively.
