Holidays already underway in Akron
The holidays are still a few weeks away, but Akron is wasting no time in celebrating.
Several fun events are now up and running at Lock 3 in the city’s downtown, under the title of ‘Winter Fest’. Perhaps the main attraction is the outdoor skating rink, which is the largest in Ohio.
Other activities include a “roo rink” for beginning skaters and kids aged 14 and under. There’s also the ‘Reindeer Run’, a downhill slide of 150 feet in length, also limited to those 14 and under.
A train based on the popular ‘Polar Express’ will operate until the ice rink closes, and a holiday market, known as the ‘Cottage Mart’, will feature local artisans who will sell unique holiday items.
The hours for the Lock 3 ice rink and the roo rink are 3:00 pm to 10:00 pm, Wednesdays through Sundays. Cottage Mart will be open on the weekend of December 5 and 6, from 11:00 am to 7:00 pm Saturday and 11:00 am to 5:00 pm Sunday.
Two of the biggest events just got underway, with Akron’s tree lighting happening last Friday and Santa arriving the day after, with a parade just to welcome him.
Event organizers could create brochures to show the layout of the area, and list the times and dates of all the activities.
