Goodyear blimp event raises toys for Akron children
The Goodyear tire company hopes to give Toys for Tots a lift with a special holiday event that gives visitors an up close view of an icon of the sky - the Goodyear Blimp.
The event allows automobiles to drive right through Goodyear's Suffield Township blimp base. That is where the blimp, called Wingfoot One, lives.
There is no admission fee, however visitors are encouraged to leave a new, unwrapped toy for Toys for Tots, a U.S. Marine Corps Reserve initiative. It has been giving out toys to children in marginalized families for decades. Visitors can also leave a cash donation. Toys should be in their original packaging.
This is the ninth year that Goodyear has teamed up with Toys for Tots for this event. To date the blimp event has raised $350,000 and Toys for Tots has taken in more than 130,000 toys.
Seven Goodyear Auto Service Centers in the Akron area are also accepting donations for the campaign from now until December 14. Donors can enter a draw for a free blimp ride.
