Akron RTA seeks public opinion on redesign

A systemwide redesign has been initiated by the Akron Metro Regional Transit Authority (RTA), and it wants to know what the public thinks needs to be done to improve service.

One way some municipalities gauge the public’s view of an issue is to engage a flyer printing service to provide flyers containing information about the issue, and requesting it be returned to any number of public places with a response.

In November 2020, the recently finalized 10-year strategic plan was adopted and now the transit authority in conjunction with Jarrett Walker & Associates are formulating the first draft of their reimagined plan. The Metro RTA’s redesign will comprised three phases.

For the first phase, the RTA is soliciting public feedback concerning the new network proposal. The objective is to evaluate the fixed-rate network, and determining areas with current high ridership and destinations where public transit is needed the most.

Phases two and three will home in on demand response services and will begin later this year. The third phase will specifically address the new mobility strategy areas where neither a demand response nor a fixed route is a viable option. Compared to the current network in place, the reimagined draft network will raise access to jobs by 63%

Phase one feedback will be taken through the end of October. Changes to the system will not be implemented until late 2022 or 2023.
