Akron grocery sees fifth generation at the helm
Nick Albrecht was recently voted in as president of Acme Fresh Market, meaning five generations of his family have now headed the company founded by his great-great grandfather.
Albrecht, who is 42, succeeds Jim Trout, who was voted in as the vice president of special projects by the board of directors. Albrecht has been with the company for 15 years and, prior to his appointment, served as executive vice president. Other positions he has held include vice president of perishables, and manager of special projects.
Often, when companies promote from within, one or more other employees change positions as well. This begins a cascade of business card printing.
Trout, has been with the company for 45 years and took over the position of president from Steve Albrecht, Nick’s father, in 2014. The senior Albrecht has remained in the position of chairman of the board.
Nick was accepted at West Point, the U.S. military academy and, following graduation, spent five years serving in the U.S. Army. He began his career at Acme at 27 and, during his first few years with the company, pursued a law degree at night from the University of Akron. He graduated in 2008 with honors.
Acme Fresh Market was founded in 1891 by Frederick Wilhelm Albrecht. It has grown to 16 stores and employs around 2,300 workers.
