Akron college primed to celebrate 50th year
At the University of Akron (UA), the Wayne General and Technical College (G&T) has plans to celebrate its 50 years of providing education with a couple of events.
First, a two-day Student Celebration Day will take place September 19 and 20 from 2:00 to 8:00 pm. Students will have the opportunity to interact with therapy dogs, take part in corn hole, eat free donuts, make memories in a 50th anniversary photo booth, and purchase energy drinks and specialty coffees from the Ott’s Coffee trailer, which will be available to the public as well.
The October event will take place on campus at the Student Life Building and will be a Community Poetry, Prose and Acoustical Jam Concert running from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on October 6. This event is open to the whole community and will include poetry, music, and light refreshments.
Multiple uses for banner printing services exist on a college campus.
The Wayne General and Technical College opened in fall of 1972 with an enrollment of 472 students. The John Boyer Gymnasium was finished in 1989, and in 1990 the college was renamed The University of Akron Wayne College. Ground breaking took place for the Student Life Building in 2008, making it the first new separate building on campus.
The Student Life Building, which has won two awards recognizing its unique design and architecture, includes a Barnes & Noble Bookstore, game room, Zip Station café, and the J.M. Smucker Multi-Purpose Room, as well as additional classrooms.
