Wappingers Falls conference reminds attendees of important safety measure
At a recent conference in Wappingers Falls that was hosted by Dig Safely New York, excavators and contractors were given an annual reminder of at least one way they can undertake their profession as safely as possible.
The construction professionals who were gathered together were reminded that before they dig or undertake any excavation, it’s important to call 811. By doing so, they will be able to avoid inadvertently damaging underground utility lines and keep themselves safe.
Kevin Hopper, who is the Executive Director with the Dig Safely New York organization, pointed out that by being aware of where the buried utility cables and other lines are located, contractors will also be able to ensure that essential services are not disrupted for the people who depend on them.
Ad specialties, such as magnets, pens, and other items, can be printed with reminders to “call before you dig”. These can be distributed to employees of contracting companies and other community members as well.
He went on to remind those in attendance that when they call 811, they can arrange to have the utility company come out and mark the approximate path of the cables with flags. This way, they can be confident that they will be digging safely, which both protects the people doing the digging and the local community, and prevents interruptions to the work.
