Spooktacular fun run and 5k celebrates 10th year
The 10th annual Leah's 5k Run/Walk and 1k Kids Fun Run will be coming to Wappingers Falls in just a few days’ time. Everyone is encouraged to show up dressed in their Halloween best.
Touted as the "original Halloween Run for Dutchess County," the event is to raise awareness and funds for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's fight against blood cancer. The event has been named for a little kindergarten-age girl who overcame Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia with the help of friends, family, medical personnel at the Maria Fareri Children's Hospital and the society.
The event will begin with a 1k Spooktacular Kids' Run for kids under the age of 13 at 9:00 am. Online registration will be $12.28 and $10 on race day. All the kids will receive finisher medals.
There will be costume contests, with prizes going to best adult female and male costumes, as well as for kids' costumes. Prizes will also go to the top female and male finishers in the 5k. Awards will go to the top female and male finishers in each of seven age categories. Individual donations and monetary corporate gifts are appreciated.
The run will be this Saturday, October 26 at 5 Van Wyck Lane, with the 5k beginning at 9:30 am. Registration is $30 online with a $3.63 fee.
