County Players to hold auditions for next musical

Wappingers Falls County Players will be presenting Ragtime the Musical in May and are looking to cast the roles in mid-January.

Nominated for 13 Tony Awards, the musical depicts three families – Jewish, African American, and white suburban – colliding in their attempts to pursue the American Dream at the turn of the century.

Cast size will be about 30 to 35 and the main characters are pianist Coalhouse Walker Jr., aged 25 to 35; Sarah, a young black washerwoman aged 20 to 25; an open-minded and moral Mother aged 30 to 40; and a professionally successful Father aged 30 to 45.

Along with other family members, black social activist Booker T. Washington will be a character in the performance. Roles of Social Russian activist Emma Goldman, beautiful vaudeville performer Evelyn Nesbit, and the famous magician Harry Houdini will also be cast.

Those auditioning for major roles must prepare 16 bars of a Broadway show tune in the vein of Ragtime, and dress comfortably for the movement part of the audition.

Groups that present musicals like this often get some of their poster printing done beforehand to get the word out to theatrical audiences.

Auditions will be held on Sunday, January 14 from 7:00 to 9:00 pm at the Fall Theatre, 2681 W Main Street. Further information can be found on its AllEvents.in listing.
