Area celebrates holiday season
The Wappingers Falls area will mark the upcoming holiday season with cultural celebrations and fundraisers.
For the 23rd year, Theater on the Road will present Charles Dickens Christmas Carol at a Benefit Dinner and Performance for Bannerman Castle Trust. Half of the proceeds will go to the trust to preserve Pollepel Island’s Bannerman Castle.
The event will take place Thursday, November 30 from 7:00 pm to 10:30 pm at Mahoney's Irish Pub & Steakhouse, 35 Main Street, Poughkeepsie.
Also, the Wappingers Historical Society will present Sinterklaas Day and the Dutch Holiday Traditions Children’s Program featuring stories about the history of Sinterklaas and early Dutch holiday traditions, traditional treats, and a visit from St. Nicholas.
The program will be at 11:00 am, 1:15 pm, and 1:30 pm on Saturday, December 2nd, from 11:00 am to 1:30 pm at Mesier Homestead, 2 Spring Street.
A Taste of Ireland will present A Celtic Christmas later in the month, with Irish dancers and musicians performing traditional ballads, tunes, and carols through storytelling. This will be Saturday, December 16 at 7:30 pm at the Bardavon 1869 Opera House, 35 Market Street, Poughkeepsie.
Finally, from noon to 3:00 pm, a 4-H Holiday Fundraiser will be held at the Todd Hill Store. Cornell Cooperative Extension 4-H Clubs will be selling hats sporting the 4-H logo design, hot drinks, grilled cheese, and soap. The Evergreen Chorus will perform at 1:00 pm.
The 4-H Fundraiser will be Sunday, December 17 at 4640 Taconic State Parkway, Poughkeepsie.
