New interest develops in historic Nanuet property
A Jewish college preparatory school has recently made an offer to purchase the Grace Baptist Church in Nanuet. Rand Commercial Real Estate’s Chief strategy officer, Paul Adler, said the school is currently located in Spring Valley.
The property is two acres in size and valued at $5.9 million. It consists of offices, two fellowship halls and two sanctuaries, and a Sunday school. The Highview Elementary School is across the street from the property. Schools such as these often turn to banner printing to post displays about such developments and their potential to join the community.
Adler said there had been several entities that had expressed interest in the property. George Hoehmann, Clarkstown Supervisor, said that at one point, the town was looking at it for a community center or senior housing but the asking price was greater than the amount for which it was appraised. He also said the Solid Waste Management Authority Board of the county had also been looking at the site for its new headquarters.
The congregation of the church decided to put the property on the market a year ago as its membership had declined from about 700 in the 1960s and 1970s to its current membership of 41 and the property was too expensive to maintain. The congregation has been in Nanuet since 1860 and made improvements to the property until 1964.
