The Bethpage Federal Credit Union, headquartered in Bethpage, just a short distance from Merrick, recently announced that it will be holding its seventh annual Bethpage Turkey Drive next month.
The Turkey Drive is the largest of its kind on Long Island and will benefit Island Harvest Food Bank. The need is for nonperishable food items, frozen turkeys, cash donations, and supermarket gift cards.
Island Harvest will be the direct recipient of these and then will be able to provide holiday meals for Thanksgiving to more than 300,000 needy residents of Long Island. Island Harvest has 570 soup kitchens, food pantries, and programs through which it can distribute food.
According to Senior Vice President of Bethpage, Linda Armyn, the Credit Union supports Island Harvest and its mission. She adds that the Turkey Drive has been well received in the community and people come out year after year to help those with limited food resources.
President and CEO of Island Harvest, Randi Shubin Dresner, added that thanks to the support of companies on Long Island like the Credit Union, Connoisseur Media, and Cablevision, a positive impact is being made on those on Long Island who face hunger every day.
Postcard printing may be used to send notices to members of the Credit Union reminding them of the Turkey Drive and to encourage their support and donations to the annual event.
