What's Happening in Merrick, NY…

Merrick residents will have a chance to take a deep dive into a television legend in an upcoming event.

Nicholas Parisi is the author of “Rod Serling: His Life, Work, and Imagination,” in which he examines Serling’s extraordinary career in detail. Serling had great success in television and film writing long before William Shatner saw the gremlin on the wing of that airplane. He had written more than 250 scripts for television and film, and was awarded the Emmy six times for four separate series. His film credits include scripts for “Seven Days in May,” a political thriller, and the first “Planet of the Apes” film.

Parisi drew on Serling’s entire body of work including unproduced scripts, speeches, unpublished writings, and personal correspondence to write his book, giving him unparalleled insight into the artist and his vision. He will share his findings in his upcoming talk, “’The Twilight Zone’ Unpacked,” an in-depth look at one of the most iconic television series of all time. In addition to the discussion, Parisi will screen the episode “Walking Distance,” after which he will guide a discussion of the significance of the episode and its themes.

The Merrick Library, 2279 Merrick Avenue, is hosting the event, which is scheduled for March 12. Everyone is welcome and there is no registration required. Events such as this benefit and can be more enjoyable when organizers use brochure printing to create a handout that explains the material in detail.
