Car meet-up in Merrick supports good cause

A car show in Merrick is set to raise money for children facing a rare illness.

Madeline’s Mission Cruisin’ For A Cause Car Show is named for Madeline, who turned one in December 2025, and was diagnosed with PKAN when she was six months old. Madeline’s Mission is partnering with the Loving Loic Foundation for the event.

Both organizations are working to support children with PKAN, which stands for pantothenate kinase-associated neurodegeneration. This is an unusual genetic condition found in approximately 1-3 children in 1,000,000, and it interferes with the cellular process by which the enzyme CoA is metabolized. At present there is no cure, but the money raised will go to support research into gene therapy.

Activities include the car show, food trucks, 50/50 raffles, items for auction, and entertainment provided by a DJ. Attendees will be able to vote on their favorite car in the People’s Choice Awards contest.

Admission to the event is $20 for those who are also participating in the car show, and spectator admission is $5.00. Children under the age of 16 will be admitted free of charge.

The show is set for September 20, from 9.00 am until 3.00 pm, at the Four Towns Fireman’s Training Center, located at 1640 Merrick Road. Outdoor events like this can be even more festive when organizers use banner printing to create suitable decorations for the venue.
