Tribute to Les Paul the spotlight at guitar show

The Fourth Annual New York Guitar Show is coming to the Freeport Recreation Center, taking place just a short distance from Merrick.

According to Richard Johnson, founder and promoter of the show, this year’s event will offer new media partners and sponsors so as to make it larger than any of its previous years.

This year, the show will celebrate what would have been the 100th birthday of Les Paul with a tribute to him and an exhibit featuring several of his bandmates and longtime friends, including the Les Paul Society; author Robb Lawrence, and Lou Pallo of the Les Paul Trio. There will also be artifacts and photographs, some of his own guitars and amps, and a wealth of items from local music stores, custom builders, and major manufacturers.

There will be a special program guide for the 100th birthday celebration. It will include notes and wishes from his bandmates and friends, as well as numerous articles and tips. Designed to be a collectors’ item, it was most likely produced with the help of local printing companies.

Les Paul’s own guitars and amps will be able to be played by attendees. Sponsors of the show include All Music Inc. of Plainview Long Island, GBase, Tailor Guitars, and Premier Guitar.

The show will be held Saturday April 25 and Sunday April 26.
