Nutcracker performances planned at Hofstra University

Merrick residents and those in other Hempstead communities will once again have the opportunity to enjoy “The Nutcracker” at Hofstra University as performed by the New York Dance Theatre (NYDT).

This will be NYDT’s 39th season performing this holiday classic ballet at Hofstra University. The company offers Long Island’s largest performance of The Nutcracker and will be the only production performed in the New York City Ballet’s Lincoln Center tradition version.

Frank Ohman, the company’s founder, is among a small number permitted to utilize the original pas de deux chorography of George Balanchine, who was his mentor. This, plus Ohman’s own original dances and scenes developed over the years, makes his production unique on Long Island.

Quality programs created and sometimes designed by local Print shops often become cherished mementos of a magical, memorable event.

Students from the Frank Ohman School of Ballet in Commack will be performing the children’s roles. Among those students will be children from various Nassau County and Suffolk County towns.

Ticket for the December 18 and 19 performances will be $42 for general admission, or $32 for senior citizens and children under 12. They are available via the ballet school’s website or 631.462.0964. Two performances will be held each day, a noon performance and a second one at 5:00 pm.

COVID-19 protocols for the audience can be found on the website and may change due to local government guidelines.
