The South Shore Blueway Trail at Bay Park in East Rockaway was recently officially opened in a special ceremony by Edward P. Mangano, Nassau County Executive; Anthony Santino, Hempstead Town Supervisor; Councilman Anthony D’Esposito; Todd Kaminsky, State Senator; and members of Going Coastal.
Mangano commented that the South Shore Blueway Trail was planned and designed by over 1,000 residents of the area working together. It runs along Nassau County’s south shore, so that those who live in Merrick will want to take advantage of the new trail.
There are 22 landings and launches along the trail, so that non-motorized boaters will be able to safely and easily have access to the western bays of the South Shore Estuary Reserve. The Reserve has many natural areas, historic sites, parks, and other attractions, as well as abundant wildlife.
Santino, also a member of the Blueway Advisory Committee, added that this is an innovative water trail and those coming to the Hempstead area will now be able to partake in a safe and enjoyable experience along the town’s shores.
The Blueway Advisory Committee might benefit from the use of various printing services to create Flyers and other materials with a map of the trail and the various landings and launches, so that those who want to take advantage of the trail can plan their outing.
